![]() cuz Friday I woke up and immediately purchased Amplitube 4. or the elves got at me while I was sleeping. Perfect? No, but definitely useable in a mix if time is spent on dialing in the sounds.īe careful with your wallet though because the costs can go up pretty high if you want TOO much gear and you maybe won't end up using all of the gear pieces so maybe demo them first. To sum up my thoughts, I think AT4 is a good platform with good amp sounds. The recent AT4 exclusive Brit amps were good too so I enjoyed trying those out. That one had a great roar to it so I recommend checking it out. I really enjoyed the sound of the Soldano SLO 100 amp sim. The MKIV was cool though when tweaked right as well as some of the other amps. They just didn't have the bottom end I'm used to from Mesa Recto's and the midrange was a little too thin or small to me. The Mesa pack is pretty cool but the Recto amps were a disappointment to me. In the mix the amps still sound pretty damn good, but I think I would choose a different platform for my own music. That's just my personal preference though. The amps in AT4 in general lack a little bit of warmth compared to other amp sims.Īfter trying a lot of modelers I'd say that platforms such as TH3, Thermionik, Axe FX, S-Gear and Mercuriall all have a sound with a little more analog depth to them. I thought the amps I used sounded pretty good. Here you can hear AT4 and some of it's expansion packs including the Mesa, ENGL, Soldano, Jet City and new British amps in action: Having said that, if you spend enough time tweaking and looking for the right combinations/settings I'm sure you could get a convincing sound. Most of the speaker choices seemed rather bright and kinda fizzy. ![]() Unfortunately I'm still not a fan in AT4. I wasn't a fan of the old cab sims to be perfectly honest. When I upgraded to Amplitube 4 I was excited to try the new speaker room thing since the concept was promising. Still, cool that they do offer the extra amps. Plugins like TH3 just give you everything at once, I prefer that over having to buy seperate bundles. give a huge versatility of sound and the gui does look classy.Ī drawback of the Custom Shop concept for me personally is the price.ģ5 bucks for one amp does seem a little steep so if you want all of the amp and effect models AT 4 has to offer, you're going to need to spend a lot of cash. The more recent officially licensed models from Jet City, Soldano, ENGL, Slash, Orange, Mesa, Ampeg etc. The amount of pedals and rack effects you can add is also pretty cool. What I liked about AT3 was the additional amps that you can buy in the custom shop. I now also got the recent ENGL addition and some more stuff. I previously owned the Orange amps, Mesa Boogie pack, Slash pack, ENGL, Soldano and more. So for the 'Clean, Crunch, Rock & Metal' platform demonstration series I had to upgrade to Amplitube 4 and also get a couple more amp models. I've owned Amplitube 3 for years as well as a bunch of expansion packs that I got when they were doing discounts. Time to talk about Amplitube 4 by IK Multimedia! ![]()
